Every finish is the same price. In the designer you can enter any length from 6 to 43 15/16 in. and fine-tune the depth, in 1/16-inch steps.
Where 16-inch deep shelves fit
- Reach-in and walk-in closets – a common depth for the shelf above the hanging rod and for stacks of folded clothes.
- Pantries – fits cereal boxes, canned goods two rows deep and most pantry bins.
- Linen closets – folded bath towels and sheets sit fully on the shelf.
- Built-ins and media cabinets – a deeper alternative to a 12 in. bookshelf for baskets, games and electronics.
Replacing wire closet shelving?
A solid 16 in. melamine shelf is a popular upgrade over wire shelving: small items do not tip over, and nothing leaves grid marks on folded clothes. Measure wall to wall where the new shelf will sit and subtract about 1/8 in.

Questions about 16-inch deep shelves
Will a 16-inch shelf sag?
Any shelf can bow if the span is long and the load is heavy. As a rule of thumb, support 3/4 in. melamine shelves carrying heavy loads such as books or canned goods at least every 30 to 32 in. Lighter loads like folded clothes can span further.
Which edge should be banded?
For a closet or pantry shelf that sits against the back wall, front edge banding is enough. Choose all edges if the ends or back will be visible.
Can you drill holes for shelf pins?
Yes. Drilled holes and corner radius are available as add-ons in the designer.
How long does delivery take?
Production takes 1–3 business days and shipping 2–5 business days, so most orders arrive in 3–8 business days anywhere in the US.
